The Nina and the Pinta
We had a nice time exploring the reproduced ships, Nina and Pinta. It was a cloudy day, with sprinkling rain. Wonderful weather for being outside - not hot and not cold. Just right.
Betty was coming in from Boaz, so she met us there.
These ships were hand made, using the same methods and tools used by the original builders, hundreds of years ago. The ships were pretty small, considering the voyage they made (multiple trips too).
The workmanship on the boats is incredible. The crews are there on a volunteer basis. The ships were made in the 90's. Hard to imagine how much work went into these vessels - I admired the floors especially.
The boys loved climbing around and pretending they were fighting a storm, or some unsavory band of pirates. I let them climb as much as I could before thinking I'd get in trouble.
Again with the deck - the photos don't do it justice.
I actually bribed Jackson Wynn to be still and smile with candy. It worked. I'll be using this ploy again.
Afterward, we had a quick lunch at one of Guntersville's finest dining establishments.
It was a beautiful day - felt wonderful out there. This is great camping weather. We have some storms coming from the West and we may actually get rain. If we do, it will be the first rain we've had in about 2 weeks. My plants and lawn are a mess. I'm keeping the mums and pansies alive so far. Reminds me that I need to take pics of those and post them!
