Bikes, Furniture and Funnies

The power went out early this morning, so our house alarm woke us up with all the chirping.  We got ready and to church a little early - so there's always a silver lining.  Got home, ate lunch and hung out a little while.  I read.  The boys played.  We then headed out and rode our bikes around the yard and house.  Abbie sanded the wood filled parts of the music chair while we rode.  I was trying to keep the boys occupied while he worked.

We were following the leader and I mentioned to them that I would "bring up the rear" so John Campbell asked what that meant.  I explained and we continued to ride.  A little while later he says,  "Mom!! It's your turn to take it up the rear!"  Disclaimer - we do not use that phrase at our house, so it was an honest mistake.  Still, I almost fell off my bike trying to control my laughter.  Abbie continued to sand and work and just shook his head.  So, m my oldest son definitely has a low brass mentality.  Someone just hand the boy a trombone already and get it over with.

Had a blast riding, even just in the yard.  Pure joy to get out and ride a bike.  I highly recommend it.  I'm hoping we can do some interesting rides this year, as Jackson Wynn is doing so well on his bike and John Campbell is an old pro by now.  They have a harder time off-road, but we just need to let them practice.  I'd love to do an easy bike trail and have a day of it - riding and a picnic.

My childhood was full of bike riding.  After we moved down South, we lived in Bridgeport for about 9 months while looking for a house.  My dad was the bike guy for the entire neighborhood.  He would grease all the chains and patch tubes, fix rims and whatnot.  He could do anything with a bike.  He had an old bike that had more chrome on it than a '57 Chevy.  We called it the Cadillac.  My dad always made sure we had good bikes in perfect working order.  I gave my first bike away to a family who needed it, along with a couple other bikes I had.  I still have the 10 speed they got me for a birthday.  I tried a mountain bike and it was way too big.  Then, my husband and I got matching Trek bikes.  Also too big for me and I fell off of it.  Finally, I got a Schwinn that is a true ladies bike and it is lipstick red.  I love it and it rides just like the bikes of my childhood.  I guess I hadn't been properly fitted for a bike since then.  Instead of a cool banana seat, I have an old lady seat.  My butt greatly appreciates the extra padding.

Here is a photo of my 2009 Schwinn Sierra GSL.  Perfect for the lady rider who wants to scoot around town and on easier trails.

We all have squeaker horns, which are a must!  So much fun.  Need to get out and get some pics.  Loving this weather.

The chair is completely glued, sanded, and primed for painting.  I will sand the places that the spray ran and give it a first coat of paint.  Then, I'll sand again and do another coat of paint, then glaze, then maybe I'll be finished.  It has taken us so long to do one chair, how are we going to do the 9 others we have for the kitchen?  Good thing it's fun.
