Birthday Boy and an Aha Bible Verse

My eldest son is about to be seven years old.  My life has been turned on its ear in a fantastic way for seven years!!!  Where has the time gone.  He's such a wonderful youngin'.  He's on swim team now - lots of posts to make on that one and get caught up - he's getting ready for first grade and made incredible grades for Kindergarten.  We are doing a family party this weekend and will be taking him to Lake Winnie next weekend.  Can't wait!

And, earlier this week, while reading Max Lucado's "Cure for the Common Life" I read a Bible verse that BLEW MY MIND. Each and every word hits me like a ton of bricks!

Philippians 2:13  13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

God is IN us - in lowly us dwells the Holy Spirit.  Because of the grace of God, He has chosen to dwell within us and do good works. And those works are for us to will and to actually do the good that is God's purpose for us. It is all a plan. God is in us; He is working in us, at work - Holy actions going on right now.  His work in us will help us to live God's will and to act God's will in our lives - the good works he has planned for us to do. And all of this is given to us through His grace and love. It is astounding to think of it that way. This is my "a-ha" verse right now. It is so humbling to know that God, the One True God, is at work in me. Working on me with each breath I take.

The thing that gets me is that my will is usually very far from where it should be.  I seem to want the things I'm not supposed to want.  I need the things that I shouldn't need.  Even love the things I shouldn't love.  Don't we all at some point?  So, this verse helps me to hang on.
