Mo, Week Two

We've had Mo for two weeks.  I called him Jeronimo to begin with, and then it hit me - Satchmo!!!  Who better to name him after than Louis Armstrong?

Mo's been fitting in quite well.  We kennel him at night.  He seems to rest better that way.  He wimpered a little the first couple of nights, but now he's content and we've got it fixed up nicely with cushions and a blanket.

He has barked and it is cute as pie.  He has even protected us a little when we've had visitors - barking and giving them "the look".  He eats well, loves the hotdog bits that we give his pills in, and is helping to keep my floors free of crumbs.

Elmer and Mo are getting along well and have shared the cushion on the couch to let me pet them both.  Henna is fine - she hides as usual unless she comes out to play with Elmer.  I hope she will get back to her usual self and come out a little more.

His skin is free of sores and redness and we have hair growth!!!  He has a follow-up vet appointment this Wednesday and I hope we have some ideas about what caused his coat loss and skin irritation.  If it is allergies, we may have flair-ups.  His thyroid is normal and he didn't have any kind of mange.  Here's some photos of him from tonight.

This was a dog with really bad skin, sores, always shaking and not a single bark.  He was completely scared.  His skin was sticky and covered in sore spots.  He was scared to death of us.  Now, he jumps up to be petted, begs for treats, barks and runs around the yard.  He loves to roll in the grass and rub his muzzle in it.   When he poops, he goes in a little circle and then jumps for joy a few times.  It is hilarious.  I was never a dog person until I met this poor little creature.  It will be a long time before his hair grows back completely, but he is already looking so much better.  He has a rubber steak that squeaks.  He'll fetch it and chew on it, growling and rolling around.  He lasts about 5 minutes before he's tuckered out and ready for a snuggle.

His crinkled ear, caused by a hematoma that went untreated.  The ear is permanently shriveled, but it adds to his character.  When his hair grows back it will be less noticeable.
