Do you know what love is?

"Love," I said, "is the rug they pull out from under you. Love is Lucy always lifting the football at the last second so that Charlie Brown falls on his ass. Love is something that every time you believe in it, it goes away..."

I finished reading Good in Bed, by Jennifer Weiner. That line is toward the end and it hit me like a brick wall. I've almost wanted to cry when Charlie Brown believes that this time is the time and then puts it all out there again, only to be flat on his back. I've been there. It sucks. The book, though, definitely does not. This is Weiner's first novel and it was really good. I was hesitant to get into it at first, thinking it was another mindless chick book, but it turned a corner pretty quickly. You start rooting for this damaged, confused girl and want to see her get a happy ending. This is Weiner's first novel and I'll be reading more.

Now I'm back to Anne Rivers Siddons and Low Country. I really enjoyed Up Island and hope this one is just as good.
